Video update of Hannah Kobayashi interviewed by private investigator

A private investigator has questioned a video that allegedly shows missing woman Hannah Kobayashi crossing the Mexican border.

According to police, the video shows 30-year-old Kobayashi crossing the border in San Diego.

Los Angeles police have changed the status of their case from “missing person” to “person voluntarily absent.”

According to the LAPD, U.S. Customs and Border Protection video clearly showed Kobayashi crossing the border on November 12.

“She was alone with her luggage and appeared to be uninjured,” LAPD Chief Jim McDonnell told reporters at a news conference Monday.

He said she was seen on Nov. 12 entering Mexico through the San Ysidro border crossing, about 125 miles south of Los Angeles.

“This is now classified as a voluntary missing person case,” McDonnell said. “A simple message could reassure those who care.”

He added that the case remains active until Kobayashi’s safety is confirmed.

Private investigator and retired FBI agent Tom Simon called on the LAPD to release the Customs and Border Protection video.

“I am very skeptical of the idea that she voluntarily crossed the border into Mexico. I think it’s entirely possible that the LAPD misidentified a person in this video at all other border crossings. “So I’m calling on the LAPD to release the video publicly when the family knows if it’s Hannah,” he told Hawaii News Now on Tuesday.

The family hired their own private detective to investigate the case.

Her sister, Sydni Kobayashi, told Hawaii News Now that even if Hannah crossed the border alone, she may still be under someone’s control.

“(The LAPD) says they saw her alone, but that doesn’t preclude the fact that someone could be watching her from a distance, knowing how big this case has become, and perhaps checking on her or telling her what to do.” should do,” she said.

She also said the LAPD did not keep the family informed.

“For them to tell us that they have kept us informed this whole time is absolutely untrue,” she said. “We feel like we’re in the dark and this was like a big slap in the face for us.”

Newsweek asked the LAPD via email and Sydni Kobayashi via email and social media for comment on Wednesday.

Kobayashi flew to LA on November 8 to visit relatives in New York.

She informed family members that she would be sleeping at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) after missing a connecting flight. The next day, she texted that she was sightseeing in LA and planned to visit shopping destination The Grove and other locations.

On Nov. 11, her family received cryptic messages from her phone saying she had been “intercepted” and feared her identity had been stolen, according to her aunt Larie Pidgeon.

Kobayashi’s father, Ryan Kobayashi, traveled from Hawaii to Los Angeles to help with the search.

However, he was found dead on November 24 after jumping from a multi-story parking lot at the Los Angeles airport where he was looking for his daughter.

The Los Angeles County coroner ruled his death a suicide, resulting from multiple blunt force injuries.
