Films like “Beverly Hills Cop” and “Spy Kids” will live on forever in the Cinema Hall of Fame, better known as the National Film Registry.

The National Film Preservation Board announced Tuesday the 25 films that will be added to its hallowed list, rounding the total to 900. This year’s film class spans over a century and various genres, from the 1885 silent film documentary “Annabelle Serpentine Dance” to the 2010 Facebook origin story “The Social Network.”

Horror fans will be excited to see the 1974 cult classic “Texas Chainsaw Massacre,” while science fiction fans will be excited to see the entry of “Star Trek II: Wrath of Khan.”

More than 6,700 titles were considered for inclusion on the list, but over 25 are cemented on the list, including long-time classics like “Harry and Sally,” “The Lion King,” “Ghostbusters” and “The Godfather.” appreciated. According to Carla Hayden, Librarian of Congress, films are selected for their “cultural, historical or aesthetic significance in preserving the nation’s film heritage.”

TV special edition honoring films broadcast on December 18th

Turner Classic Movies (TCM) will host a television special honoring the 25 new additions to the National Film Registry on Wednesday, December 18 at 8 p.m. ET.

“The richness of American film history is sometimes quite overwhelming and people often ask themselves: How do you recommend this or that film?” National Film Preservation Board Chairwoman Jacqueline Stewart said in a press release: “This is done through a lot of research, conversations and discussions and through a commitment to show the true diversity of filmmaking.”

How to nominate films for the National Film Registry list

The public can submit nominations on the Library of Congress website throughout the year, but films will only be considered until August 15, 2025. Cast your vote at loc.gov/film.

Last year’s selection included notable films from Home Alone and Apollo 13 to 12 Years a Slave.
