The start of today’s duel between Virginia Tech and No. 4 Duke is getting closer and closer. It’s been a dismal start to the season for the Hokies, but they have a huge chance against the top team in the conference.

Tech and Duke will meet for the 67th time when the two face off on New Year’s Eve in Durham, North Carolina. The Hokies trail in the all-time series 53-13.

Tech won the 2022 ACC Championship Game 82-67 against the No. 7 Blue Devils in Brooklyn, New York. Hunter Cattoor scored the highest score of his career in this championship game, securing the tournament MVP title. Tech has won just once at Cameron Indoor Stadium by 1:25, a 69-67 overtime decision on Jan. 6, 2007.

This is the 37th time Tech has faced a nationally ranked Duke squad, including the 20th time the Blue Devils have been ranked in the top five. Jaden Schutt, a Duke transfer, returns to Cameron Indoor for the first time since moving to Blacksburg. Schutt played in 14 games for the Blue Devils during the 2022-23 season before redshirting in 2023-24.

Although the Hokies were 0-4 on the road at Cassell Coliseum this season, those games were played at neutral sites. On Tuesday there will be no. 4 Duke Tech’s first real away game of the season. VT is 4-20 in true away games over the last two seasons.

According to Fanduel Sportsbook, Virginia Tech is a 24.5 point underdog against the Blue Devils today and the total points are at 135.5.
