Vlahovic and Nico Gonzalez: “Juventus’ confidence is growing”

Dusan Vlahovic and Nico Gonzalez hope the 4-0 Coppa Italia win over Cagliari can “give us confidence for the future” and help ease tensions among fans.

There was a celebratory mood at the Allianz Juventus Stadium this evening, a far cry from the angry atmosphere following the 2-2 draw against bottom-placed Venezia.

That was their fourth straight Serie A draw, but they made it to the quarter-finals of the Coppa Italia with a 4-0 win over Cagliari.

They were all excellent goals with first class skills from Vlahovic, Teun Koopmeiners, Francisco Conceicao and Nico Gonzalez.

“We are happy with the victory and so many fans came here tonight and supported us from the first to the last minute,” Vlahovic said on Canale 5.

The tension in this argument with some ultras in the stands had already subsided before kick-off, as they shouted his name and waved at him during warm-ups, not to mention the banner outside the arena.

“I am very happy because they are one of the biggest clubs in Europe with 60 million fans. As I said, I’m sorry for what happened on Saturday, but we have to move forward together and united, which is the most important thing.”

Can the Juventus team hope to close the Serie A gap on Atalanta, Inter and Napoli tonight?

“Of course every win gives us confidence, but we have to take it game by game.”

Nico Gonzalez has been out of action for two months, so scoring with a run from his own half and a remarkable lob from the edge of the box mid-sprint is a sign that he is well and truly back.

“A positive result is important, I think what we showed today is the path we want to continue. I’m very happy,” said Nico Gonzalez.

“The first thing I had to focus on was getting fit, helping the team and keeping a smile on my face. I want to bring that joy and bring joy to everyone here.”

Juventus will face Empoli in the quarter-finals of the Coppa Italia, continuing their defense of the trophy won by Max Allegri last season.
