Walmart Birkin Dupes are ideal for everyday wear

In recent years we have seen a huge increase in scam culture. Thanks to TikTok and Instagram, people are more excited than ever to share with their everyday audiences how they can look and feel luxurious at a price that won’t bankrupt them. And until recently, everyone was pretty positive about the whole thing (except, of course, for the companies whose products are counterfeit). But apparently the recent discovery of counterfeit Hermés Birkin bags in none other than the most popular supermarket, Walmart, has left the internet pretty divided.

Someone discovered that Walmart is selling a genuine leather bag that looks shockingly similar to the coveted Birkin bags that typically cost between $10,000 and literally $2 million. *screams* These “Walmés” bags, as they are called, are only $80 and actually seem to be high quality bags. They look just like the bag that celebrities around the world carry for a day fraction of the price…so what’s the problem?

Some people on social media have shared that they aren’t big fans of this whole duplicate ordeal because they think it’s “cheesy.” Seriously, they’re getting pretty worked up about other people buying these bags and I just have to ask…why?

In a world that feels kind of Kardashian-esque (in the sense that they seem to evoke more negative emotions than positive ones), I thought we’d all be on the same page when it comes to eating the rich. But suddenly, buying affordable bags that make them feel luxurious makes other people angry because they realize that the status symbols they’ve assigned to arbitrary items are all made up. And the craziest thing is that I see a lot of normal people (who I know for a fact can’t afford real Birkins) being the most upset. If you’re waging class war on behalf of a class you don’t even belong to, I’m sorry to say you’ve lost the plot. Plus, you’re missing out because these bags are cute.

The most interesting thing is that Jane Birkin, the woman who inspired the design of the OG Birkin, didn’t even treat it like this flawless, untouchable thing. She basically threw all her shit in there and carried TF out of the bags. Seriously, she used them until she literally wore them. And now we see people handling the bags very carefully, sometimes even wearing gloves.

Listen, the idea of coveting a designer bag occurs to me – after all, I’m just a girl. I’ve had my eye on a certain Louis Vuitton Neverfull for a while now. I too lost to capitalism. But do I care that others buy duplicates or counterfeits of this bag? Hell no. Why? Since I’m not Louis Vuitton (RIP), it doesn’t affect me at all.

I want us all to take a deep breath and remember that times are really tough. The economy sucks, the world is on fire, and the workforce is in shambles. Obnoxious displays of wealth just don’t resonate as well as they once did because people are no longer just jealous of the rich – they’re angry at them. And if you’re going to take the time to shame someone for spending their money on a bag that makes them happy just because you think it “degrades the status of the bag,” then you might need to get a little reality check. In the meantime, I’ll be at Walmart.
