Warriors’ Draymond Green (calf) is out against Nuggets

Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green is out for Tuesday night’s game against the Denver Nuggets due to left calf soreness.

Warriors coach Steve Kerr doubted Green would play Monday.

The Warriors are taking a cautious approach with veteran stars Green and Stephen Curry. Green has appeared in each of Golden State’s last 19 games and is averaging 8.8 points, 6.3 rebounds, 5.9 assists and a career-best 40.3% shooting percentage from distance. Green is a passing center in Golden State’s offense while also anchoring Kerr’s defense.

Curry missed three games earlier this season with an ankle injury. The point guard is currently battling tendonitis in both knees and suffered a loss to Oklahoma City last week before returning Saturday and a loss at Phoenix.

Curry, who is expected to play against Denver, said Saturday he is not worried about the pain in his knees, although he has not previously dealt with the issue and noted that it has the potential to become a nagging injury.

Curry wasn’t sure if he might have to sit out games as a replacement.

“This is what it will look like for our team and the respective careers of Draymond and Steph at this point,” Kerr said. “That’s why we have to try to keep their playing minutes as low as possible. We have to try to keep them healthy by being proactive.”

“If they’re dealing with nagging injuries like Steph’s knee last week or Draymond’s calf now – then we definitely need to get that under control.”

According to Kerr, Kevon Looney, Trayce Jackson-Davis and Kyle Anderson are candidates to defend against reigning MVP Nikola Jokic without Green out.

The Warriors enter the NBA Cup game having already won their group. With a win, the Nuggets have little chance of advancing as a wildcard team.
