Warriors Jonathan Kuminga twists his ankle and leaves the game against the Grizzlies

The Golden State Warriors have been hit hard by the injury episode this year, and another setback occurred on Saturday night. Late in the second quarter of their game against the Memphis Grizzlies, fourth-year forward Jonathan Kuminga landed on the deck after twisting his ankle under the basket. Kuminga immediately pointed to the bench, stood up and limped straight to the dressing room, where he remained until halftime. He was followed by team coach Rick Celebrini.

It is not yet clear whether Kuminga will return to the game, although this seems unlikely. We will update this story as the team provides updates.

UPDATE: The Warriors have announced that Kuminga is out for the remainder of the game with a sprained ankle.

Kuminga has emerged as the team’s second-leading scorer behind Steph Curry and has played a big role lately as a sixth man and offensive spark. At the time of his injury, the athletic forward led the team with 13 points while shooting 4-for-6 from the field (including a perfect 3-for-3 from distance) and 2-for-4 on free throws. He also had two rebounds and two assists despite committing four turnovers.

With Curry out for the game with a knee injury, Kuminga’s offensive contributions are crucial. He will be greatly missed if he is unable to return to the game or has to miss additional time.
