Warriors Notes: Curry, Wiggins, Spencer, Jackson-Davis

Stephen Curry is expected to play tonight in Phoenix after missing Wednesday’s game due to bilateral knee soreness, according to ESPN’s Ohm Youngmisuk (Twitter link). At a meeting with reporters before the game warrior trainer Steve Kerr Both Curry and said Andrew Wiggins must complete warm-up exercises before a final decision on their status is made. Wiggins is dealing with a right ankle injury but hasn’t missed a game this month.

Curry exited Golden State’s last contest after playing four games in six days, notes Sam Gordon of The San Francsico Chronicle. He managed to get through Friday’s practice without any problems, and the Warriors will need him back on the court for another Western Conference showdown after missing 14 straight shots in Wednesday’s loss to Oklahoma City.

Kerr spoke with Gordon about the 12-man rotation he uses, which results in numerous five-man lineups throughout each game. Kerr admitted that it wasn’t easy to build chemistry under these conditions.

“What we need to narrow down is: What three things can we do really well with certain groups? It’s up to us as coaches to get to that point.” he said. “The difficult thing is that we have a lot of different combinations night after night. It takes a little longer to really get comfortable with all of these actions and patterns.”

There’s more about the Warriors:

  • Curry’s absence on Wednesday presented the two-way player’s first significant opportunity Pat Spenceradds Gordon in a separate story. In his fourth appearance of the season, the 28-year-old point guard posted six points, four rebounds and three assists and posted a plus-nine rating in his 14 minutes on the court. “It feels good to get minutes, but I think we have a whole team that can play.” Spencer said. “Maybe straight back out of the rotation. Could be in the next game. For me the goal is to achieve victory and unfortunately we didn’t manage to do that. Keep it up.”
  • The Warriors are happy with the performance they are achieving Trayce Jackson Davisbut they would like to see more emotion from him, according to Ron Kroichick of The San Francisco Chronicle. Kerr said he wants the second-year big man to run at full speed all the time instead of falling into a home run rut at times. “Your makeup is your makeup and he’s not an overly aggressive person.” Draymond Green added. “So it’s not really realistic to expect him to be an overly aggressive person on the pitch. … As a leader it is up to me and (Kevon Looney) to get the fire out of him, to push him.”
  • Green took the blame for the team’s late-game scoring errors in the loss to OKC, NBC Sports Bay Area’s Monte Poole reports. Without Curry on the court, the Warriors wouldn’t be able to score baskets against the talented Thunder. “I just need to calm down and make sure we get into something.” Green said. “Do a few sets. We were a little scattered and that’s on me. When the game gets to this point, someone has to slow the game down and get us into a set. I’m the veteran out there. I’m the one with the most experience out there.”
