That’s certainly true for Georgia football and Georgia Tech, two schools about 70 miles apart that pride themselves on playing a physical brand of football.

“We have to have a contact-seeking attitude and enjoy a street fight,” Georgia coach Kirby Smart said. “Not everyone likes that, so it’s just one of those things where you find out a lot about yourself when you get to play against a physical football team like these guys.”

Georgia is coming off a game in which it struggled to stop the run, allowing UMass 226 rushing yards in a 59-21 Bulldog victory.

Georgia Tech has rushed for 225 yards or more in four games this season, but passed for 272 yards or more and ran for 119 in its win over NC State last week

“The biggest thing for us is closing our gaps,” Georgia linebacker CJ Allen said. “With their offense and the quarterback running the ball, it creates an additional hat. Just stay in the gaps and know where you fit and how quickly you fit in.”

Georgia Tech (7-4) hasn’t beaten Georgia (9-2) since 2016. The Bulldogs are No. 8 in the Coaches Poll and No. 7 in the CFP Rankings.

“When I think of Georgia, I just have a strong dislike for that program,” Georgia Tech center Weston Franklin said. “I’ve never liked it. Never wanted to be there. …That’s the goal every year, to win a state championship, and that’s what we plan to do.”
