Juan Soto’s epic new contract deserved an equally epic celebration.

After ESPN insider Jeff Passan reported on December 8 that the 26-year-old MLB star had agreed to a 15-year, whopping $765 million contract with the New York Mets, Soto’s brother gave fans a glimpse into how he celebrated with friends.

In an Instagram Story uploaded later that evening, Elian Soto filmed his unsuspecting brother, who was in a hot tub at the time, as Soto was doused by friends with a liquid that appeared to be alcohol.

The boys cheered and laughed as they poured the bottle over the new Mets star, who seemed excited to share the big moment with his friends and family.

“HAS HIS ASS,” Elian wrote over the video with three laughing emojis and a Mets GIF, adding, “METS BABYYYYY.”

Soto’s new contract with the Mets is the largest deal in professional sports history, according to ESPN’s Passan, and does not include any deferred money. The deal “includes escalators that could reach a value of over $800 million,” sources told Passan.

NBA star Donovan Mitchell, a longtime Mets fan whose father worked for the organization, personally called Soto to congratulate him and share in the excitement.

“LFFFGGGMMMMMM,” Mitchell, 28, wrote in a post on X (formerly known as Twitter) with a screenshot of the FaceTime call with Soto after the deal was announced.

“Great day to be a Mets fan,” one user wrote on X while reacting to the message.

However, others call the 15-year deal a mistake by the Mets. “$34,979 per inning. This isn’t just a contract – it’s a statement,” one user said.

Another fan said the contract was “perhaps the largest overpayment in the history of sports.”

And Yankees fans, who had cheered Soto since he joined the team on a one-year deal in 2024 and hoped he would return to their team, are expressing disappointment after he moved to their crosstown rivals.

“I’m not going to lie, as a long-time Yankees fan this hurts,” one fan wrote, adding, “I’m not mad at him for getting the win, but he and the Yanks were a perfect fit.”

But other Yankee fans are relieved their favorite team didn’t spend so much on Soto after seeing how much he’ll make with the Mets. “I’m a Yankee fan and love Soto. I’m so glad we didn’t get him at that price,” said one Yankee fan.

The next MLB season begins with Opening Day on March 27th.
