As the game came to a close, Notre Dame football’s Georgia Bulldogs tried to mount a comeback in the fourth quarter.

The SEC champion was knocking on the door, having driven into the red zone expecting more than just a field goal. The Irish defense held on from 4 down and with under 10 minutes left in the game they need to run for time as much as possible.

The first play was promising, a Jadarian Price run for 5 yards. On second down he got the ball again, this time gaining only 2 yards. On third down, a short pass to Aneyas Williams gained just 2 yards, setting up a 4th-and-3.

That’s where things got interesting. The Irish would make a complete hockey-style change, with all eleven players originally on the field leaving the game and eleven new ones joining.

It completely confused the Bulldogs as it was now still the Irish offense and not the special forces team on the field. Quarterback Riley Leonard made a perfect hard count, Georgia jumped and the Irish snapped the ball at a flag for offside.

The Irish would be rewarded with a first down and would capitalize on another six-plus minutes, essentially putting the game on the ice. Watch the viral ploy that helped Notre Dame advance to the CFP semifinals here.
