Wayne Osmond’s cause of death has been confirmed after the legendary singer tragically died aged 74

Wayne Osmond, founding member of the Osmonds and brother of Donny and Marie, died on New Year’s Day at the age of 73 – his cause of death has now been determined.

The singer and guitarist died in a Salt Lake City hospital, his brother Merrill Osmond confirmed.

The star was the second oldest of the original Osmond Brothers singers and the first of the nine Osmond siblings to die.

His family announced his death in an emotional statement to local ABC affiliate KTVX, confirming that he died “peacefully” surrounded by his loved ones and that his wife, Kathlyn Louise White, was by his side in his final moments.

His daughter Amy Cook confirmed that he was surrounded by “his loving wife and five children” when he died.

Wayne struggled with significant health problems throughout his life, first occurring in 1994 while on tour with his brothers.

He told Coping magazine: “One day while I was working in Branson, I realized I couldn’t play my saxophone anymore because my head started pounding.”

In 1997, he was diagnosed with a brain tumor that required a 17-hour operation followed by weeks of radiation therapy. However, the treatment damaged his cochlea, leaving Wayne almost deaf.

A stroke in 2012 left him unable to play guitar twelve years before the massive stroke that caused his death.

The family’s statement highlighted his lasting legacy: “His legacy of faith, music, love and laughter has influenced the lives of many people around the world.”

When his brother Merrill heard the news, he immediately drove to the hospital and “was able to say goodbye.”

His health initially deteriorated when he noticed that “my knees would fall out from under me when I was on stage.”

After his death, tributes poured in from Wayne’s siblings.

Donny Osmond wrote on social media: “My dear brother Wayne passed away peacefully last night from a stroke. Wayne brought so much light, laughter and love to everyone who knew him, especially me. He was the ultimate optimist and loved by everyone.”

Jay Osmond shared a particularly emotional tribute, saying he “always felt the most connected to Wayne of all my siblings.”

Wayne was a founding member of the Osmonds along with his siblings Alan, Wayne, Merrill and Jay, with Donny later joining and leaving the group, which rose to fame in the 1960s after performances at Disneyland.
