Northern California Forecast: Fog and clouds fill the sky, chain controls on I-80 and US-50 will be lifted

We will get back to you shortly. Now about the weather changes on the way to Northern California. TONIGHT WE HAVE THESE LIVE LOOKS FROM OUR REGION. STOCKTON I-80 AT DONNER SUMMIT AND SOME OTHER AREAS IN OUR AREA. We saw a break from the wet weather today, but there’s more on the way in the valley. Our meteorology team is tracking another round of rain for the morning commute and into the Sierra. Chain controls have been lifted, but that could change if more snow is on the way. Our team has prepared you for the latest system of heavy rain, wind and snow. NOW WE WANT TO GO TO METEOROLOGIST DIRK VERDOORN WHO IS TRACKING THE NEXT SYSTEM. So DIRK, the big question right now is when will it start raining? Yes, well, the rain is already falling on the north coast of California. YOU CAN SEE THIS HERE. This will prevail overnight tonight. And tomorrow morning we should see the rain across much of the Central Valley, particularly northern SACRAMENTO COUNTY. So roughly between 6 and 7 o’clock. WE SEE THIS HAPPENING. So as soon as the sun comes up, it will continue to rain. NOW WE SEE THIS ON THE COAST. There were a few rain showers at Fort Bragg. JUST A FEW SPOTLIGHT SHOWERS. NOTHING TOO HARD YET. AND WE HAVE SEEN THAT ENOUGH MOISTURE IS PUSHED AHEAD OF THIS SYSTEM THAT AS IT RAISES THE SLOPE OF THE SIERRA HERE, PLUMAS COUNTY WILL GET SOME PATHS OF SNOW AGAIN, JUST A FEW SMALL PATHS. ACCUMULATIONS VERY LIGHT. But we see how this extends from Chester beyond Quincy. QUINCY CONTINUES TOWARD LAPORTE AND PORTOLA, NOW SOME SNOW WHERE WE DON’T SEE THE SNOW IS OVER THE MOUNTAINS WHERE THE PASSES RUNNING AT LEAST ALONG I-80 AND HIGHWAY 50. WE LOOK PRETTY GOOD. THE ROADS ARE FREE. Not much traffic, but as far as conditions go, there are no chain controls. We look pretty good. HERE’S A LOOK AT THE WEATHER. WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY: THIS IS POSTED FOR 4:00 AM MONDAY MORNING TO 4:00 AM TUESDAY. Snow levels will be between 4,500 feet and 5,500 feet, and we could see anywhere from 2 to 6 inches above 5,000 feet, with some gusty winds up to 40 mph. So that goes our way. The storm that brought strong winds and heavy rain to the valley over the weekend and also impacted other parts of California. IN SANTA CRUZ COUNTY, A TORNADO LANDED IN THE SCOTTS VALLEY YESTERDAY AFTERNOON, CAUSING SIGNIFICANT DAMAGE AND SENDING SOME PEOPLE TO THE HOSPITAL. Check out this video of the tornado captured by a restaurant’s security camera. THIS WAS TAKEN FROM BRUNO’S BAR AND GRILL IN THE SHOPPING AREA IN SCOTTS VALLEY. In the distance you can see the tornado spinning. Witnesses who described the moments it happened felt like the last day, like the world was ending. Because, I mean, trees just fell down and I mean, it was just torture. The National Weather Service confirms it is an EF One tornado. FIVE PEOPLE WERE INJURED BUT ALL OF THEM ARE EXPECTED TO BE OK. That’s good news. YOU GET A BETTER VIEW OF THE DAMAGE LEFT BEHIND. The tornado toppled trees and power lines and even caused cars to overturn. PRESS THERE YOU CAN SEE THE WHOLE TRUT ON THE ROAD. SOME RESIDENTS AND BUSINESSES WERE EVEN WITHOUT POWER. We were worried about business. And you know, you couldn’t come here because the power lines were down. POWER WAS OFF. They couldn’t figure out what was going on. And as you know, you never expect something like a tornado to strike near where you live. Officials now say all power has been restored to the area and roads have reopened. TONIGHT Cleanup efforts were also underway in the BAY AREA after heavy rain caused flooding and strong winds knocked out power. Take a look at some of the implications. LOTS OF FLOODING IN LIVERMORE. Some cars became stranded in the water and toppled trees in Burlingame. PG&E spent the day restoring power to thousands of customers. Crews say they’ve made a lot of progress, but in some areas it was showing

Northern California will get a break from wet weather on Sunday as the next storm system moves into the region early Monday. There were areas of patchy, dense fog on Sunday morning as well as areas of frost in the valley. By midday the fog will clear over the valley, but for the rest of the day skies in the valley will remain mostly cloudy with high temperatures only reaching the low to mid 50s. There will be a mix of sun and clouds in the foothills and Sierra. Starting at 5 p.m., chain controls will be lifted on I-80 and Highway 50. The next storm system will move into the region in the early hours of Monday, bringing rain with a chance of reaching the valley by daybreak. There will be rainfall in the valley and foothills, especially in the morning hours. Snow showers will intensify by late morning but will ease by early afternoon. However, this will continue quickly and will not result in the dramatic amounts of rain and snowfall we saw on Saturday. Dry conditions are forecast for Tuesday through Friday, with the next wave of moisture arriving on Saturday, which will also be the first day of winter.
