Weather forecast for Chicago: Snowfall Thursday evening, followed by another round overnight

CHICAGO (WLS) – The Chicago area saw some snow Thursday evening.

ABC7 AccuWeather meteorologist Tracy Butler said winds increased as a clipper system began and the severe weather began in the evening on the way to work.

Snow was expected to continue overnight and possibly into the morning commute on Friday.

Snow is forecast for the Chicago area starting Thursday evening.

ABC7 AccuWeather meteorologist Larry Mowry says the Chicago area could see up to two inches of snow. Heavier snow is expected to continue north of the Chicago area.

Parts of Evanston saw a light covering of snow Thursday evening, but rain fell quickly in the area.

Snow plows and salt spreaders were used to clear the highways. Although the snowfall was short-lived, it still caused some headaches for motorists.

It was a chaotic evening commute for many drivers, especially near the Illinois-Wisconsin border. Car accidents increased along I-94. A semi-truck with a jackknife caused a major traffic jam.

Other vehicles had accidents or got stuck in ditches due to the snowfall.

There were also dangerous road conditions in the Round Lake area. Emergency crews responded after a driver crashed into a mailbox.

Others were spotted braving the wintry weather while running errands.

The snowfall also made its way into town, but didn’t last long throughout the Loop. The Streets and Sanitation Department sent out salt spreaders to keep the roads safe.

City officials are urging people to allow extra time for their Friday morning commute.

There is one Note on winter weather in Waukesha, Milwaukee, Racine and Kenosha until noon Friday.

Lake effect snow could occur Friday across northwest Indiana and possibly lakeshores in Illinois.

Some people ABC7 spoke to said they hope it snows again for Christmas next week. However, with a view to Christmas, it cannot be assumed that it will snow.
