Weather in Louisville: Snow is expected on Sunday

Kentucky’s first “significant and impactful winter storm” is expected Sunday morning through Monday.

The National Weather Service says a mix of significant “wintry precipitation” including snow, sleet and freezing rain is expected beginning Sunday morning, with possible winter storms expected Friday. Throughout the day, snow and other conditions will impact areas north of the Interstate 64 corridor and southern Indiana, with possible ice formation along and north of the Western Kentucky and Bluegrass Parkways.

NWS meteorologist Mark Jarvis said motorists should use caution Sunday, but roads will be clear until Monday or Tuesday.

“Travel will become increasingly difficult during the day on Sunday and perhaps even Sunday evening,” Jarvis said. “There may be periods or areas on Sunday where travel is not possible for a period of time due to icing conditions and heavy snow that may occur in parts of the state.”

This time also saw the Commonwealth’s first major storm of 2024, causing devastating damage to residents with a state of emergency and several inches of snow in mid-January.

Friday

Skies will be cloudy turning sunny with a high around 36 degrees and northwest winds of 7-11 mph with gusts as high as 22 mph. Friday night will be mostly clear, with a low around 19 and northwest winds 5 to 8 mph.
