Wintry Monday chaos

Today: Intermittent snow and a wintry mix. Highs will be in the low to mid 30s. Wind: SSW 10-20 mph.

Tonight: Mostly cloudy with low temperatures around 20°. Wind: S 5-10 mph.

Tuesday: Mostly cloudy with highs in the upper 30s. Wind: N 5 mph.

A storm system will bring a mix of snow, sleet, freezing rain and rain today. The day starts cloudy and dry with temperatures around 20°. Rain showers start to pick up after lunch and really pick up after 3pm. Snow showers are initially expected north of I-96, and south of I-96 a mix of sleet and freezing rain. There will also be a small region in the south where precipitation is so warm that it will only rain. As temperatures drop toward the evening, snow will fall across most of Detroit, with some sleet and freezing rain mixed in. The showers will end around midnight.

Snow totals are <1" south of I-94, 1-2" from I-94 to I-69, and 2-4" north of I-69. Some light ice accumulation is possible due to sleet and freezing rain. but the Totals will be less than <1/10".

After the difficult start to the week, temperatures will climb to over 30 and even over 40 degrees by Friday. A weak system offers a chance for a wintry mix on Wednesday. but snow accumulation will be little to none. Further rainfall is expected Friday evening and into next weekend, with highs rising into the 40s.
