West Alabama schools will begin announcing weather-related closures on Friday

Schools across Alabama, including some in our service area, are making the decision to close Friday as winter weather of snow and freezing rain is expected to impact much of the state.

We will maintain an updated list of central and western Alabama schools in our region that will not be open on Friday. Check back in real time for additions to the list to be announced.

Tuscaloosa City Schools will be closed

“Tuscaloosa City Schools will remain closed Friday, January 10th due to the impending threat of winter weather. This cancellation only affects schools and activities on Friday – extracurricular activities will continue as planned today, Thursday, January 9th. To accommodate this closure, students will attend school on Tuesday, February 18th. We encourage TCS families and employees to stay safe and weather aware.”

Schools in Tuscaloosa County are closed

“Due to the potential for winter weather in our region, all Tuscaloosa County School System schools and offices will remain closed on Friday, January 10, 2025. All extracurricular activities are canceled for January 10th. The latest forecast for our region includes the possibility of a wintry precipitation mix Friday morning that could impact road conditions, and it is likely that different parts of our county will experience varying weather Friday. Safety is our top priority and we must ensure the safest decision for all of our schools and bus routes.

Please stay safe and weather aware. We expect to be able to resume normal operations on Monday, January 13th. We do not anticipate any changes to weekend extracurricular activities.”

“In light of the winter weather forecast and out of an abundance of caution, Bibb County Schools will be moving to remote learning tomorrow, Friday, January 10th. We have been in close contact with local EMA officials and believe this is the best way to ensure everyone’s safety.”
