What Air Noland’s transfer says about Ohio State’s next starting quarterback

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Ohio State has lost a sophomore quarterback to the transfer portal, another sign of how the looming battle for the starting job is likely to play out.

There was probably no quarterback on the roster more impacted by Nick Saban’s retirement than Air Noland, as he introduced a wild-card variable into the Buckeyes’ future. They tried to recruit Julian Sayin out of high school after Dylan Raiola decommitted, but the former five-star was determined to play for Alabama. Noland was the next best option, quickly turning a scholarship offer into a commitment.
