What Arch Manning said about being the quarterback for Texas in 2025

ARLINGTON – As Texas football players hugged, shook hands and cried after Friday’s 28-14 loss to Ohio State in the College Football Playoff semifinals, Arch Manning sat quietly in his locker and slowly got dressed.

The sophomore quarterback, the scion of football’s most famous quarterback family, has been the heir apparent behind center since arriving on the Texas campus two years ago. He spent all but one moment of Friday’s game on the sidelines, accompanying quarterback Quinn Ewers and cheering on his team.

And it will almost certainly be Manning’s team next season, especially after Ewers told ESPN’s Pete Thamel that he doesn’t expect to play college football next season.

Texas quarterback Arch Manning scrambles for a first down during the Longhorns' 28-14 loss to Ohio State in the College Football Playoff semifinals on Friday at AT&T Stadium in Arlington. Manning is expected to take over as the starter in 2025 as Quinn Ewers has indicated he no longer plans to play college football after this season.

But Manning said such discussions could wait during a postgame locker room interview with the American-Statesman.

“It’s probably not the right time to think about next year because I have so much respect for these seniors,” he said. “I learned so much from them. They are just great people and I will definitely miss them.”
