What Boise State’s Ashton Jeanty’s Spencer Danielson said after clinching a spot in the College Football Playoff

No. 10 Boise State (12-1) punched its ticket to the College Football Playoff with a 21-7 victory over No. 20 UNLV (10-3) in the Mountain West Football Championship at Albertsons Stadium on Friday night.

It is the Broncos’ second consecutive MWC title and sixth overall in program history.

“I’m so grateful and thankful for this opportunity,” said running back Ashton Jeanty, who made a statement to Heisman Trophy voters with a 32-carry rush for 209 yards and a touchdown. Jeanty is up to 2,497 rushing yards and 29 touchdowns this year, 132 yards shy of breaking Barry Sanders’ all-time single-season FBS record.

“I love this team. It’s a family, a close unit. I’m so glad we did this.”

The win secures Boise State a spot in the College Football Playoff — and likely a first-round bye. The final CFP rankings will be released Sunday at 10 a.m. Mountain Time.

Here are highlights from Fox’s postgame interviews with Jeanty and head coach Spencer Danielson:

First of all, I have to thank God. The way he moves through this team and has blessed us… but that means everything. That’s all we’ve worked for. And to get here and do it, you have to give credit to the team. Tonight the offense, defense and special teams come together.”

“It’s training. It’s the training and work we put in. We’re not running away from work here. I’m a dog and I show it off every week.”

“It’s a dream come true. I love this team, I love the way we came together. The connection and love we have is stronger than anything else. …We only took it for a week at a time. We’ve been playing for a spot in the playoffs since Week 1. We came in here and got the job done and it’s great to make history.”

“It would mean everything. Not just for me, but for this program, for this community. Anyone who has an underdog story, just to see my story and how I overcame all the obstacles.”

“Our players don’t run away from hard work. They just keep swinging, keep swinging, keep swinging. This is unusual. You deserve the credit, Jesus deserves the credit. We have the best staff in the country and also the best fan base in the country.”

“You have made your decision. Last offseason our best players, starting with Ashton, said: “I’m staying here.” “I want to be part of something different.” It’s a team that loves each other. We don’t want to fit into the mold that college football says you have to fit into. They said, “Let’s do this,” and just kept going, one day at a time. And when you do that, don’t look too far forward or too far back. Everything is available for you. They didn’t run away from hard work. That’s what this team is.”
