The NFL playoffs are finally here, with daily injury reports taking the spotlight for much of the week.

The focus of attention was the health of Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love and Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts. But as the NFC Wild Card Game begins Sunday afternoon, perhaps we should turn our focus to the team’s key running backs – Green Bay’s Josh Jacobs and Philadelphia’s Saquon Barkley.

With both teams relying on the ground game, the matchup could certainly be decided by which Pro Bowl ball carrier has the better spot out of the trenches come the afternoon.

Barkley ran for over 2,000 yards and 13 touchdowns this season and was on pace to break Eric Dickerson’s single-season rushing record before sitting out Week 18.

Like Barkley, Jacobs signed with a new team as a free agent in the offseason and became the anchor of the Packers’ offense. He finished with 1,671 total yards and 16 touchdowns, 15 of which were rushing.

Both Love and Hurts are expected to play, and both offenses will look for explosive plays when the opportunity arises, but chances are Jacobs and Barkley will carry the load often. The two totaled 646 carries and 3,334 yards this season.

The Packers and Eagles are two of only three NFL teams that run the ball more than 50% of the time. There’s no reason to believe this won’t continue for the Packers as they look to avenge their 34-29 loss to the Eagles earlier in the season in Brazil. Packers fans would probably want some return on 4th-and-26, too.
