LAPD sources told TMZ that authorities arrived at the area where OG Maco’s home is located at 10 a.m. after one of his neighbors called 911 about a gunshot. They discovered OG Maco in an unresponsive condition and sent him to a nearby hospital. According to the above report, the rapper underwent surgery.

At the time of writing, it is unknown what happened before the gun was fired.

As mentioned above, OG Maco is one of the pioneers of trap music. Originally from College Park, Georgia, he later became active in Atlanta’s thriving hip-hop scene. In 2021 he released his studio album The God Of Rage. He previously released several extended plays including Public Speaking (under the name Maco Mattox) in 2012, a self-titled release in 2014, Breathe in 2014 and many more.

In July 2016, OG Maco, whose legal name is Benedict Chiajulam Ihesiba Jr., was involved in a serious car accident. He lost almost no use of his eyes and suffered multiple skull fractures, broken vertebrae and a number of other injuries. In a 2016 interview with HipHopDX, OG Maco explained what happened:

“You know, things like that don’t happen. “My face (points to the right side of my face) – that whole part of my face is fake,” the rapper said. “That part just doesn’t exist anymore. This is plastic surgery at its finest. Even my eye; my eye will be back.”

OG Maco explained why he wore an eye patch back then: “I can see that eye! But it’s just not healthy for me to leave it outside and shit. If I continue like this, I won’t be able to see this eye anymore. It’s going to catch fire, so I have to take my time.”

In 2019, the rapper was treated for a condition called necrotizing fasciitis, which was caused by flesh-eating bacteria. This resulted in significant facial scarring.
