What the Red Sox told Juan Soto in the recruiting pitch

The Red Sox apparently won’t take their foot off the gas pedal when they sign the most coveted player in MLB free agency.

Boston appears to be making some progress in the Juan Soto sweepstakes. A recent report claimed Soto’s decision will cause distress for the New York Mets and Red Sox, who are reportedly instilling “fear” in the Yankees with their pursuit of the superstar outfielder.

The Red Sox have plenty of options to lure Soto, including a large market, a robust prospect pool and a ballpark that fits his style of play. And according to NJ.com’s Randy Miller, the Boston folks brought another major selling point when they met with the four-time All-Star.

“I heard that (Soto) was very impressed with the Red Sox and the Red Sox are telling Soto that they are going to sign a few additional players in addition to him,” Miller said Saturday on WFAN, as transcribed by MLB. com.

Those “additional players” could potentially include a front-line starter, as Boston appears intent on bolstering its rotation. The Red Sox could also be interested in adding a strong right-handed hitter, perhaps in the form of star third baseman Alex Bregman.

Craig Breslow and Co. still appear to have some work to do heading into this offseason, so Boston is expected to be a much-improved ballclub once spring training begins.
