The 2025 Sugar Bowl has been postponed due to a tragic attack early Wednesday morning on Bourbon Street in New Orleans, which the FBI is investigating as an act of terrorism. The Sugar Bowl then announced that the game will now take place on Thursday at 4:00 p.m. ET. Sugar Bowl CEO Jeff Hundley initially said, “It’s in everyone’s best interest and public safety that we postpone the game for 24 hours.” According to an ESPN report, both teams had the option to cancel for rest and recreation purposes to aim for an earlier start time than the originally scheduled kickoff on Wednesday at 8:45 p.m. ET.

The deadly incident in New Orleans occurred around 3:15 a.m. Wednesday morning when a gunman drove a pickup truck into a large crowd on Bourbon Street and fired at police officers from the vehicle, killing at least ten people and more than 30 people were injured. The FBI said there was an ISIS flag, weapons and a potential IED in the suspect’s vehicle. According to the FBI, other potential IEDs were also found in the French Quarter of New Orleans
