Jalen hurts; Kenny Pickett in

After days of speculation, the Philadelphia Eagles announced Friday that Jalen Hurts is still in the NFL’s concussion protocol and was officially ruled out of Sunday’s game. Backup quarterback Kenny Pickett appears to be next in line to take the field in Hurt’s place. Pickett came in for Hurts last week after he was injured, but the backup quarterback is himself dealing with a rib injury from last Sunday’s game. Pickett was limited in practice Friday.

Wide receiver Britain Covey was also sidelined with a neck injury sustained during the team’s Week 13 game against Baltimore on Dec. 1. Running back Will Shipley was also sidelined after suffering a concussion last week against the Commanders.

The Birds could also be without linebacker Nakobe Dean, who was limited in practice this week due to an abdominal muscle injury.

It will be the battle of backup quarterbacks, with both Hurts and Cowboys starting quarterback Dak Prescott out for Sunday’s game. Prescott was sidelined for most of the season after suffering a hamstring injury in Week 9 against the Falcons. The Eagles earned a win the following week against the Cowboys – their first game without Prescott – by a score of 34-6.

Cooper Rush will take the field for the Cowboys on Sunday.
