What to know about Georgia football backup QB Gunner Stockton

ATLANTA – Georgia football senior quarterback Carson Beck suffered a serious blow at the end of the second quarter of the SEC championship game against Texas on Saturday and was slow to get back to his feet.

“They just said his hand got hit when he threw it there,” head coach Kirby Smart told Holly Rowe on the ABC broadcast. “The guy came all the way around the edge, which is what people do in situations like that. He has to be aware of it and just get rid of the ball.”

While Smart remained hopeful until halftime, the broadcast later announced that Beck’s day was over.

Substitute Gunner Stockton is scheduled to replace Beck. Here are three things to know about the Bulldogs’ backup QB:

Stockton was a 4-star recruit coming out of high school

Stockton is from Tiger, Georgia, where he attended Rabun County High School and was coached by Jaybo Shaw. He was a 4-star prospect coming out of high school and was the No. 7 quarterback prospect nationally and No. 12 prospect nationally according to 247Sports.
