What to Watch: “Nightbitch,” Streaming “Star Wars: Skeleton Crew”

For Amy Adams, it’s the Year of the Dog.

The six-time Oscar nominee shows her original side as a mother who thinks she’s turning into a dog in the dark comedy “Nightbitch”, a nice counterprogram to “Wicked”, “Gladiator II” and “Moana 2”. This holiday season at the movies is looking great so far and is getting an exciting boost with The Order, a true crime drama starring Jude Law. The Englishman can currently be seen on the big screen as both an FBI agent in this film and as a mysterious villain in the new “Star Wars” series “Skeleton Crew”. And it’s a big week for television, as our best shows of 2024 are ranked, in case you make a list and check it twice. (It’s not just a Christmas thing!)

With Golden Globe nominations coming up Monday morning, Adams has a good chance of nabbing her 10th career lead actress musical/comedy category. She’s the best thing about “Nightbitch,” an adaptation of the Rachel Yoder book: Adams plays a creatively unfulfilled housewife who, exhausted by her young son and the daily grind, begins to notice fur, fangs, and a tail developing her body. But these strange physical aspects lead to necessary changes for their emotional well-being.
