What you need to know about the snowstorm expected for Pueblo

PUEBLO, Colo. (KKTV) – The 11 Breaking Weather team expects more than a few inches of snow for Pueblo Tuesday, especially during the morning commute. That’s why the City of Pueblo is taking measures to minimize the impact of the snow on the roads.

City of Pueblo Public Works Director Andrew Hayes tells 11 News city workers on Monday pre-sanded common slippery spots like bridges and ramps and pre-treated roads to melt snow and ice faster or prevent them from coalescing form.

However, if the temperature drops below a certain level, Hayes says, pretreatment cannot prevent ice formation, so extreme caution is required.

The city is also preparing its snow plows when the snow arrives. Hayes says it’s best to stay off the road if possible and, if you absolutely must drive, to use extreme caution and slow down.

Hayes also tells 11 News that it’s important to give snow plows more room: “Give those vehicles more room and make sure drivers stay away from those vehicles.”

Hayes added, “There are a lot of blind spots in the plows and with the additional extensions on the plows and grinding equipment, it can be difficult for drivers to see you, so stay away from these vehicles.”

“…People don’t realize the dangers that come with snow plowing. If you’ve never sat alone in a dump truck, it’s already very large and when you put those extra large blades in the front or the extensions in the back with grinders, it can be really difficult for the driver to see or see you’re in the able to maneuver the vehicle as usual, so it is more than grateful to provide them with plenty of space to work.”

We also spoke with a District 70 spokesperson. He told 11 News that his team is on standby and continues to monitor the weather situation as it unfolds and that they will make a decision as early as possible.
