When both teams return, the Spurs overtake the Lakers

Devin Vassell, Stephon Castle and Victor Wembanyama each scored 23 points as the visiting San Antonio Spurs ended a three-game losing streak with a 126-102 victory over the Los Angeles Lakers in the return game between both teams on Monday.

The Lakers had to postpone two home games last week for safety reasons, including a game against the Spurs on Saturday, because of deadly wildfires in the Los Angeles area.

Harrison Barnes scored 17 points and Chris Paul had 13 points and 10 assists as the Spurs beat the Lakers for the first time in three games between the teams this season. San Antonio outscored Los Angeles 73-40 in the second half.

Anthony Davis collected 30 points and 13 rebounds and LeBron James added 18 points and eight assists as the Lakers lost their third straight game, all to Texas teams. Los Angeles dropped in Houston and Dallas on his final road trip.

Austin Reaves scored 12 points and had eight assists for Los Angeles, which led by 11 points in the third quarter before collapsing in the final 16 minutes of the game.

The Lakers led 84-74 with 3:57 left in the third quarter before the Spurs tied the score with a 10-0 run. The game went into the fourth round with a score of 89-89.

San Antonio went on a 15-3 run to take control at 109-96 with 6:34 minutes left. A 3-pointer from Vassell gave the Spurs a 114-98 lead with 4:06 left.

The Spurs outscored the Lakers 37-13 in the fourth quarter.

Each team led by as many as seven points in the first quarter before the Spurs took a 28-26 lead at the end of the quarter.

Los Angeles shot 63.6 percent in the second quarter and went into halftime with a 62:53 lead.

Davis scored 13 points in the first half for the Lakers, while Wembanyama scored a game-high 14 points at halftime for the Spurs.
