When will it snow in Chicago? Looking Ahead as Cold Temperatures Continue – NBC Chicago

Freezing temperatures will continue in the Chicago area for now, although the cold will coincide with a relative lack of snow for many in the region as 2025 begins.

While a massive snow accumulation is not expected, snow showers could occur Friday morning while temperatures hover near freezing.

Forecast models indicate light snow could continue into the afternoon hours and create slippery conditions during the morning commute.

While most suburbs are expected to see less than an inch of snow accumulation, areas south of Interstate 80 and east of Interstate 55 could see up to five inches of snow.

The weekend will be mostly dry with high temperatures in the upper to lower 30s, although another storm system is expected to approach the region Sunday through Monday, primarily affecting Wisconsin.

Although the system will remain mostly north of the Chicago area, some parts of the region could see about an inch of snow early next week.

This snowfall will be followed by another blast of arctic air that will drop highs into the upper teens on Tuesday, with single-digit lows possible on both Monday and Tuesday before temperatures are expected to slowly warm up on Wednesday.
