Where Alabama football ranks in the AP poll in the top 25 ahead of the CFP picks

If the College Football Playoff selection committee follows the lead of the Associated Press media Top 25 poll, Alabama football will be in the 12-team field. When the poll, which has no bearing on the CFP rankings, was updated Sunday morning after Friday and Saturday’s conference championship games, the Crimson Tide was ranked No. 11.

Alabama failed to advance in the rankings after finishing 11th last week. Both ACC Championship Game participants, winner Clemson and loser SMU, were ranked below the Crimson Tide.

Despite the loss, the Mustangs were ranked 12th, one spot ahead of Clemson, which won on a late field goal to secure a playoff spot. The CFP selection committee will determine whether SMU will make the field over Alabama at the selection show later Sunday.

Oregon remained No. 1 in the AP poll, while Georgia climbed to No. 2 after beating Texas. Notre Dame slipped to third place, followed by Texas and Penn State.

Ohio State moved up to No. 6 and Tennessee moved up to No. 7. Boise State, now Mountain West champions, finished in eighth place.

Indiana and Arizona State finished in the AP top 10. The CFP selection show with the final rankings and 12-team bracket will air Sunday on ESPN starting at 11 a.m. CT.
