Where and when winter shelters are open | The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

On its website, the Arkansas Division of Emergency Management lists eight shelters within 50 miles of Little Rock that will be available in the next few days.

The Little Rock shelter at the Dunbar Community Center will be open 24 hours a day starting at 6 p.m. Wednesday until further notice, Mayor Frank Scott Jr. announced.

The shelter at 1001 W. 16th St. is open to anyone who needs a warm, safe place to stay and have a meal, the city said.

Transportation to and from the shelter is coordinated by Little Rock-based nonprofit The Van. Anyone needing transportation can call (501) 955-3444.

Anyone looking for warm shelter during the day can go to one of four locations in the city between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. These locations are: the Dunbar Shelter; West Central Community Center, 8616 Colonel Glenn Road; Stephens Community Center, 3720 W. 18th St.; and Southwest Community Center, 6401 Baseline Road.

Due to its role as a shelter, the Dunbar gym will be closed to other activities for the remainder of the week.

In addition to the Dunbar location in Little Rock, the North Little Rock Community Center at 2700 N Willow St. will be available nightly through Friday to provide a hot meal and space to those in need.

Visitors are encouraged to bring their own snacks, drinks and entertainment items. Pets are also welcome.

Conway will have three locations available.

According to the city’s Facebook page, the Don Owen Sports Center at 10 Lower Ridge Road has been a 24-hour shelter in place since Sunday. To stay overnight, check-in must be before 9:00 p.m.

The McGee Center at 3800 College Ave. is open Monday to Saturday from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. and Sunday from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

The Conway Emergency Shelter at 1116 Gum St. is open overnight to those ages 18 and older. The principle “first come, first served” applies. For overnight stays, guests must check in between 3:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.

In Hot Springs, the city’s Community Resource Center is at 109 Hobson Ave. Open 24 hours a day until January 14th at 9am.

The Jacksonville Warming Center at First Presbyterian Church (1208 W. Main St.) is open from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m. through January 10th

Searcy’s Carmichael Community Center at 801 S Elm St. is expected to be open, but as of Wednesday afternoon, a center employee did not know what the hours would be.

The Saline County Warming Center at Benton’s Northside Church of Christ (917 N. East St.) will open Wednesday from 8 p.m.

She is asking for donations of items, including trash bags, bottled water, children’s clothing, toiletries, eating utensils and winter clothing.

These items can be dropped off at two locations: the Benton Courthouse Pavilion (200 N. Main St.) and Bryant Fire Station #1 (312 Roya Lane).
