The RTX 5090 will undoubtedly change PC gaming when it launches on January 30, but its $2,000 price tag means it’s absolutely not for everyone. If you’re planning on putting together an incredibly powerful 4K device that can also push into the 8K realm using AI power, you’ll ultimately be eyeing this card. However, if even the RTX 4090 feels like it offers more than enough juice to run your Steam library, there are far cheaper options this generation.

During Nvidia’s CES 2025 keynote, CEO Jensen Huang also introduced the RTX 5080, RTX 5070 Ti and RTX 5080. Each class of card should offer higher frame rates that scale with price, but even the latter 70-series card can apparently offer Nvidia GeForce RTX 4090 performance. Better yet, this particular model costs $549, so current-gen 4K gaming will be significantly cheaper in the coming generation.

Of course, there is a small catch, as such feats are achieved using new AI tricks made possible by Blackwell. DLSS 4 effectively gives your PC a boost by generating graphics on its behalf. Nvidia claims the tool can fill 33 million pixels for every 2 million pixels generated by your actual hardware. If you prefer to keep everything native, the results may be a little less impressive, but you’ll still get a huge performance boost across the Blackwell range.

The RTX 5090 is still in its infancy and I will try to share my own benchmarks soon. This will ultimately paint a real performance picture that will help you make your flagship purchase decision, but the price already suggests it’s suitable for both power users and extreme PC builders.
