Given that there are only a few episodes of Yellowstone left, last week’s episode 12, “Counting Coup,” didn’t advance the plot very much. For some inexplicable reason, series co-creator Taylor Sheridan continued his streak of killing off characters (RIP, John Dutton and Sarah Atwood) with a scene where cowboy Colby (Denim Richards) came to the aid of Carter (Finn Little). Teen was threatened by an out-of-control horse.

The animal kicked Colby, killing him and leaving his fellow cowboys, including his sweetheart Teeter (Jen Landon, who, in case you didn’t know, is the daughter of the late “Bonanza” star Michael Landon), upset, with Carter following him blamed himself, Rip Wheeler (Cole Hauser) blamed himself, and so on.

The death seemed completely unnecessary, especially since the character of Carter, the teenager Beth and Rip took in, has been an afterthought for some time. In another strangely extended sequence, Sheridan himself made one of his on-camera appearances as Travis, the horse trainer in Texas.

Sheridan, who wrote the episode – like almost every episode – got to drop a lot of F-bombs and break the news of John Dutton’s death to Jimmy (Jefferson White), who now works at 6666. the sprawling Texas ranch (in real life, Sheridan and investors purchased the actual 6666 Ranch).

The episode also revealed that Rip plans to sell much of the Yellowstone herd and horses to raise money; that the detective in charge of the investigation into John Dutton’s death knows that Market Equities attorney Sarah Atwood was not killed in a carjacking but was instead the target of a murder; and that the detective believes Jamie (who lied and claimed his relationship with Sarah was purely personal) is a suspect in her death.

Meanwhile, Kayce, as convinced as Beth that Jamie played a role in her father’s murder, makes a bizarre foray into Texas to confront the creep who orchestrated the murder of John Dutton. Not only did Kayce threaten the creep, he also held a gun to the creep’s young daughter’s head and threatened to kill her if the creep caused any more harm to Kayce’s family.

It looks like neither of these Dutton siblings have particularly good judgment or impulse control, to say the least! Sunday’s episode, “Give the World Away,” is described as follows: “Jamie begins to feel dizzy and later seeks advice (he needs it); Beth and Travis make a deal; Kayce has an idea about the future of the ranch.”

While the series is making great strides, the off-screen news surrounding “Yellowstone” was also quite dramatic, with the announcement that the series would end with Season 5 and that star Kevin Costner would not be returning for the final episodes.

And there is still confusion about how to watch “Yellowstone.” The series airs on the Paramount Network, but viewers cannot watch it on the Paramount+ streaming service. That’s because the show initially streamed on Peacock, the NBCUniversal streaming service.

This agreement was a major headache for Paramount+, as Yellowstone became a huge hit. To capture some of the “Yellowstone” fanbase, Paramount+ became the home of several shows from “Yellowstone” co-creator Taylor Sheridan, including the prequel series “1883” and “1923.”

A “Yellowstone” spinoff called “The Madison” has also been announced, which will star Michelle Pfeiffer, Patrick J. Adams and Matthew Fox. The series is about members of a New York family who move to the Madison River Valley in central Montana.

And while there have been reports that “Yellowstone” stars Reilly and Hauser were in talks about a possible sequel to the show, there has been no official announcement.

There is a way to watch some episodes of Yellowstone for free via streaming if you can watch the show quickly. As mentioned above, you can take advantage of a seven-day free trial of Philo as this streaming service now has every episode from Season 3 to Season 5, Part 1 available to stream on-demand. New episodes from Season 5, Part 2 will also be released every Sunday as they air on the streaming service.

If you want to start at the beginning, Peacock has seasons 1-5 of Yellowstone streaming on-demand. Peacock only costs $7.99 per month, but due to the series’ complicated streaming arrangement, the second half of Season 5’s episodes won’t be available on Peacock until after the season airs. However, if you need to watch the entire series again, you can do so for less than $8 and have a whole month to burn through these episodes.

“Yellowstone” focuses on the Dutton family, who own a vast ranching empire in Montana and fight for control of the land, sometimes with deadly consequences. Kevin Costner played John Dutton, the patriarch who questions his power and struggles with conflict between his adult children Beth (Kelly Reilly), Jamie (Wes Bentley) and Kayce (Luke Grimes).

As far as TV streaming services go, Philo remains the most cost-effective and affordable TV streaming service on the market. The company has built its platform to focus on a specific type of television viewer. Fans of Philo like popular series, documentaries, reality TV and movies, but aren’t as interested in things like live sports, premium channels and expensive linear cable networks that drive up the prices of other streaming platforms and cable service providers. For the full list of channels Philo has and more information about the platform, check out our complete Philo streaming guide.

“Yellowstone” continues Sunday, December 8 at 8 p.m. on Paramount Network. Watch them Season 5 premiere, part 2, free on-demand streaming with Philo.
