A Big East matchup will take place on Wednesday, January 8th, pitting the Xavier Musketeers against the No. 7 UConn Huskies at the XL Center in Hartford, Connecticut.

The game is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m. EST and will be broadcast on SNY. Fans who want to watch this women’s college basketball game can do so via DirecTV Stream or Hulu, both of which offer a free trial. UConn guard Paige Bueckers has a sprained left knee and could return in a week

STORRS, Conn. (AP) — UConn guard Paige Bueckers has a left knee sprain, avoiding a serious injury.

She will miss Wednesday’s game against Xavier.

Bueckers injured his knee in the third quarter of UConn’s win over Villanova on Sunday. Coach Geno Auriemma said she may miss some games.

“It’s just a sprain,” Auriemma said Tuesday. “There’s nothing broken, there’s nothing crazy about it. Her knee was twisted a certain way, her ankle was twisted a certain way. It’s just an unpleasant thing. We hope to have her back in a week.”

Bueckers left the Huskies’ 83-52 win over Villanova on Sunday after Villanova freshman Jasmine Bascoe landed on the UConn All-American’s left leg as she dove to the ground to grab a loose ball. Bueckers limped off the field with 1:17 left in the third quarter and did not return.

Bueckers leads No. 7 UConn (13-2, 4-0 Big East) with an average of 19.9 points per game and leads the team with 29 3-pointers made heading into Wednesday’s home game against Xavier.

As a freshman, Bueckers was the national player of the year. However, due to injuries, she was only able to play in 17 games over the next two seasons. She has started 54 games over the past two seasons, with Sunday’s game at Villanova being the 100th of her college career.

“If they’ve been through something in the past, they’re afraid if I’m going to have to go through something again,” Auriemma said. “That is the first reaction. Once that’s relieved… She’s doing great. I spent a lot of time talking to her yesterday and today.”

Auriemma said reigning Big East Freshman of the Year Ashlynn Shade will move into the starting lineup while Bueckers is sidelined.

Shade started for UConn early in the season as guard Azzi Fudd recovered from a knee injury.

“I feel like Coach (Auriemma) did a good job of telling us to be ourselves,” UConn senior guard Kaitlyn Chen said. “We all bring something different to the table, so it’s not like we’re trying to replace them. Everyone just has to bring a little more of what they can do.”
