Where, when and how much snow in Colorado Monday, Tuesday

A new wave of winter weather is moving into Colorado on Monday, dropping fresh snow across the state, according to the National Weather Service.

Snow will begin falling late Monday afternoon over the mountains of southern Colorado and the Front Range Urban Corridor, including Denver, and increase overnight, according to NWS forecasters.

Meteorologists said the storm would spread to the Eastern Plains on Tuesday.

A winter weather advisory is in effect for the Denver metropolitan area and surrounding suburbs, the southern foothills, the Palmer Divide and the Interstate 70 corridor through the Eastern Plains from 11 p.m. Monday through noon Tuesday.

The heaviest snowfall will occur before the Tuesday morning commute, causing slippery and dangerous road conditions for motorists, forecasters said in the warning.

According to Monday morning’s snow forecast, the following totals are expected to accumulate by 5 p.m. Tuesday:

  • Up to 5 inches in Denver, Brighton, Broomfield, Aurora, Arvada, Highlands Ranch, Littleton, Northglenn and Denver International Airport
  • Up to 7 inches in Golden, Centennial, Lakewood and Parker
  • Up to 3 inches in Vail, Breckenridge, Snowmass Ski Area, Winter Park, Loveland and Keystone
  • Up to 5 inches in the San Juan Mountains of southern Colorado, including Coal Bank Pass and Wolf Creek Pass
  • Up to 4 inches in the Park Range and Rocky Mountains of central Colorado, including Rabbit Ears Pass, Bear Lake, Rollands Pass and Mount Werner
  • Up to 3 inches of snow at the Eisenhower Tunnels

The greatest chance of snow in the Denver area will be between 8 p.m. Monday and 11 a.m. Tuesday, forecasters said.
