How many versions of the Grinch movies are there?

There are three film versions of the Grinch.

“How the Grinch Stole Christmas!” is the 1966 animated version directed by Chuck Jones. It is based on the children’s book by Dr. Seuss from 1957 and is voiced by Boris Karloff as the Grinch and June Foray as Cindy Lou Who.

It’s about the Grinch, a green creature with a heart “two sizes too small” who lives in a cave on Mount Crumpit and hates Christmas. On Christmas Eve, he dresses up as Santa Claus and tries to prevent the approaching Christmas Day with his dog Max by stealing gifts, decorations and food, but this doesn’t dampen the spirits of the residents of Whoville.

“How the Grinch Stole Christmas” was released in 2000 as a live-action adaptation of the book. Jim Carrey plays the Grinch and Taylor Momsen plays Cindy Lou Who, who unsuccessfully tries to integrate him into the Whoville festivities. The Grinch steals all the Christmas decorations, but Cindy Lou makes it clear to the town that she doesn’t need any of that to celebrate. This helps the Grinch learn the true meaning of Christmas.

“The Grinch” is the 2018 animated film starring the voices of Benedict Cumberbatch and Cameron Seely. Cindy Lou meets the Grinch, who advises her to go to the North Pole to talk to Santa about how he can help her mother. Instead, she decides to lure Santa into a trap and accidentally captures the Grinch as he tries to steal decorations and presents from the people of Whoville. The Whos still celebrate Christmas and the Grinch realizes he was wrong.

Unfortunately, the 2000 version of How the Grinch Stole Christmas starring Jim Carrey is currently only available to rent for $3.99 on Apple TV, Google Play Movies & TV, Fandango at Home, and Amazon Prime Video and to purchase for $14.99 $ available on the same platforms.
