Where will Michigan football play in a bowl game?

For the first time since 2019, there is no answer to the Wolverines’ postseason question in the days following the end of the regular season. The Wolverines took a step back and finished 2024 7-5 while attempting to defend the 2023 national championship, but earned a fourth straight win over Ohio State. UM will play in a co-ed bowl game this season.

Michigan spent the last three postseasons playing in the Big Ten Championship Game and then the College Football Playoff, finally winning it all in 2023. It needed to restart with a new coaching staff led by Sherrone Moore and is now looking for a new offensive coordinator to replace the fired Kirk Campbell.

The Wolverines sit seventh in the Big Ten standings, missed the expanded CFP and will most likely be placed in a bowl with a Big Ten tie. Top options include the Music City Bowl in Nashville, Tennessee and the ReliaQuest Bowl in Tampa, Florida.

Bowl game matchups will be officially announced Sunday afternoon after the 2024 College Football Playoff standings determine the new 12-team field. The CFP show begins at noon ET on ESPN.

ESPN’s two bowl projection writers, Kyle Bonagura and Mark Schlabach, both have Michigan in the Music City Bowl, albeit against different opponents. One has Michigan facing South Carolina (9-3, SEC) and the other predicts the Wolverines facing Ole Miss (9-3, SEC).

Michigan to the ReliaQuest Bowl against Florida (7-5, SEC). 247 Sports reported that there were discussions “behind the scenes” about the Bowl’s interest in a Michigan-Florida matchup. The teams have played in bowls twice in the last decade, with UM posting a 41-7 win in the Citrus Bowl to close out Jim Harbaugh’s first season and Florida getting some revenge three years later with a 41-15 win in the Peach Bowl.
