CALIFORNIA – Most grocery stores in the Golden State will remain closed Wednesday. So you need to plan ahead to get everything you need for holiday meals even on Wednesday, be it Christmas dinner or the first night of Hanukkah.

People who don’t plan ahead may have to make do with finishing the meal with ingredients they find at a supermarket. Luckily, several are open on Christmas Day, although hours may be limited. Chains with locations in California include 7-Eleven, Circle K and Speedway.

A handful of drugstores will be open on Christmas Day. Most 24-hour Walgreens stores will be open as usual, but others may have limited hours on Christmas Day. Rite Aid’s 24-hour stores close at 9 p.m. on Christmas Eve and remain closed on Christmas Day. Most CVS locations will be open from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Christmas Day and 24-hour stores will be open as usual. Be sure to call ahead to find out the pharmacy’s opening hours.

Popular chains in California like Target, Whole Foods and Trader Joe’s will all be closed on Christmas Day.

Many grocery stores close early on Christmas Eve and hours may vary by location. It is therefore advisable to check with your local store before traveling. Here’s what we know about grocery and related store hours on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day:

Albertsons: Stores will be open Christmas Day from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., but select stores will remain closed. On Christmas Eve, stores are open from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m., but hours may vary depending on location. Shops will be open as usual on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day.

Aldi: The stores close at 4 p.m. on Christmas Eve and remain closed on Christmas Day. The shops also close earlier on New Year’s Eve, but are open during regular opening hours on New Year’s Day.

Costco: Stores will be closed on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day. The members’ wholesale markets are open on Christmas Eve from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on New Year’s Eve from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Gelson’s: Most Gelson’s are open from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Christmas Eve and close on Christmas Day. On New Year’s Day, most shops are open from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m

Food4Less: Shops close at 8pm on Christmas Eve (petrol stations at 7pm) and remain closed on Christmas Day. On New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day the shops are open during regular opening hours.

Kroger: Stores are open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Christmas Eve and closed on Christmas Day. Shops will be open during normal business hours on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day.

Ralphs: All stores close at 10:00 p.m. on Christmas Eve and are closed on Christmas Day. Most pharmacies close at 5 p.m. on Christmas Eve.

Sam’s Club: Member wholesale stores close at 6:00 p.m. on Christmas Eve and remain closed on Christmas Day.

Safeway: Store hours vary on Christmas Eve. Some shops open as early as 5 a.m. and don’t close until 8 p.m. Most shops will be open with varying hours on Christmas Day. Shops will be open as usual on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day.

Goal: Shops close at 8 p.m. on Christmas Eve and remain closed on Christmas Day. On New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day the shops are open during regular opening hours.

Trader Joe’s: Stores are open Christmas Eve from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and closed Christmas Day. Shops are open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on New Year’s Eve and closed on New Year’s Eve.

Walmart: Stores are open until 6 p.m. on Christmas Eve and closed on Christmas Day. On New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day the shops are open during regular opening hours.

Whole Foods: Most stores will be open with modified hours on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Day. All locations will be closed on Christmas Day.

Vons: Most Vons are open on Christmas Eve from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. and stores are open on Christmas Day from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m.
