Who are Kiesza and Aloe Blacc? 2025 Rose Parade Opening Performers Explained – Pasadena Star News

On Wednesday morning, January 1, singers Kiesza and Aloe Blacc will open the 2025 Rose Parade with musical performances on the Honda float, where they will be accompanied by a synchronized light show, pyrotechnics and plenty of dancers.

The Tournament of Roses announced the pair on Dec. 11 as the newest musical talents to open the parade, a spot occupied by David Archuleta, Cassadee Pope, Michelle Williams and Rush Davis during last year’s parade.

If this is your first time hearing about the artists – or need a refresher – here’s who they are, what they’re known for, and what they’ve done so far:

Kiesza

The Canadian-born, 35-year-old singer and instrumentalist is best known for her 2014 hit “Hideaway,” which dominated global charts at the time of its release and racked up over 347,000,000 streams on Spotify.

That happens to be the song she will perform during the parade, where she will be joined by 20 dancers in shimmering, reflective costumes in a rendition of the song with “renewed energy for global audiences,” according to organizers. She’ll also perform a preview of her Billboard No. 1 hit “I Go Dance” while extreme acrobats perform on jumping stilts in the background.

Kiesza, once a folk singer, primarily produces fast dance music, the genre of her two released albums; “Sound of a Woman” from 2014 and “Crave” from 2020. In 2018, she was featured on Dreamworks’ “Home” soundtrack with her song “Cannonball.”

Kiesza most recently released her 2024 EP, Dancing and Crying: Vol. 1, and shared her journey to the Rose Parade stage on her Instagram.

Aloe Blackc

After Kiesza, it’s Aloe Blacc’s turn to hit the float stage. He will perform his “Wake Me Up” – a global megahit by the late Avicii, which Blacc co-wrote and sang on.

The 45-year-old singer and rapper, born in Orange County, got his start in 1995 in the indie rap group Emanon, consisting of himself and hip-hop producer Exile.

Blacc launched his solo career in 2003 and enjoyed his first major success in 2010 with the song “I Need a Dollar,” which has since garnered nearly 285,000,000 streams on Spotify. Other hits include “The Man” from 2013 and, more recently, a country version of “Wake Me Up,” which Blacc released in November 2024 with country singer Cooper Alan.

Today, Blacc has over 4 million monthly listeners on Spotify and recently announced his upcoming residency at New York venue Blue Note.
