Who are the 5 living presidents? Carter’s funeral is scheduled to be a Presidents Club meeting

Carter’s funeral is the Presidents Club’s largest gathering since 2018.

WASHINGTON – Former and current residents of the White House will gather in Washington on Thursday to attend the state funeral of former President Jimmy Carter.

While some U.S. presidents have occasionally gotten together for events, this is the first time in more than six years that all living U.S. presidents have been in the same place at the same time.

Carter’s funeral is the largest gathering of the Presidents Club since five of them attended George HW Bush’s memorial service in Washington in December 2018.

Presidential Club members were absent from the last two presidential inaugurations. In 2021, then-outgoing President Trump skipped his successor’s inauguration. The Carters were also absent due to the couple’s health and concerns about the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2017, George HW Bush missed Trump’s inauguration due to age and health reasons.

Who are the five living presidents?

After Carter’s death, current President Joe Biden is now considered the oldest living US president. He is also the oldest serving US president. But it’s a record that Donald Trump could break in a few years.

President-elect Trump will be the oldest person ever to take office on January 20, 2025. That’s a milestone Biden previously reached when he was sworn in in 2021 at the age of 78.

When Biden’s presidency ends on January 20, 2025, he will be 82 years and 2 months (or 30,012 days).

Toward the end of his second term, on August 15, 2028, Trump would break this record as the oldest U.S. president.

After Biden and Trump, George W. Bush (78), Bill Clinton (78) and Barack Obama (63) are the second oldest living presidents.

At Carter’s funeral, Trump and his wife Melania first entered the Washington National Cathedral and were shown to their seats. Obama sat next to Trump and chatted with his successor, who did not stand to greet him but shook his hand. Michelle Obama didn’t go to the memorial service.

Seated next to Obama were George W. Bush and his wife, former First Lady Laura Bush. Standing next to them were Bill Clinton and Hillary Clinton.

Biden and his wife Jill sat next to Vice President Kamala Harris and her husband Doug Emhoff. There were no visible greetings, but the former presidents were all together in a private room before entering the Washington National Cathedral.
