Australia has always been good to comedian Ronny Chieng.

The Land Down Under is where Chieng attended college, began his comedy career and met his wife Hannah Pham. Like her husband, Pham works in the entertainment industry, but instead of being on stage, she works behind the scenes as a lawyer and producer. She grew up in Melbourne, where the two met, and attended Melbourne Girls Grammar School and the University of Melbourne.

Chieng and Pham began dating around 2009 when they were studying together and married seven years later. Although The Daily Show correspondent and Crazy rich Asians Since the actor is busy, one of his favorite things to do is spend a relaxing Sunday with Pham.

“I love my wife so much that I couldn’t even stand to see her suffer,” Chieng said of his wife’s hormone injection, adding, “She did her part admirably.”

Chieng and Pham met in Australia

Chieng is originally from Malaysia and grew up in Singapore and the United States. However, his training later took him to Australia, where he met his wife. The couple’s first contacts took place at the University of Melbourne, where both studied law.

In a post on Instagram, Chieng looked back on the couple’s first trip together.

“2009. I was in NYC for the first time with my new girlfriend. We met in law school in AUSTRALIA and that was a big journey for us. I’ve only been in comedy for six months,” he wrote, adding that the two were then tricked into attending a comedy show under the pretense that Eddie Murphy’s brother Charlie Murphy was performing.

Things came full circle when he put up his own billboard for a comedy show in Times Square. “2023. In Times Square with my now wife (same wife) in front of my own billboard trying to get people to come to my sold out show at @radiocitymusichall. Thank you NEW YORK CITY for becoming our home,” Chieng wrote.

Pham works as a lawyer and producer

Pham wears multiple hats in her career. After earning her Master of Laws from New York University in 2017, she worked as an executive producer and worked closely with Chieng on his career, according to her LinkedIn profile.

In her legal practice, Pham focuses primarily on “intellectual property law issues (copyright, trademark and patent law), trademark protection and consumer law issues, and the conduct of intellectual property litigation.” She was named a Lawyers Weekly 30 finalist Under 30 in the Intellectual Property category and has written several articles on intellectual property in stand-up comedy.

Pham has also worked as a lawyer for media companies including VICE Media.

They had several weddings

Chieng told Pham the story of his connection in his comedy special. Asian comedian destroys America.

“I love my wife so much that I married her three times,” Chieng told the audience. “Why? Because if you have Asian parents, you have to get married in every country where you have relatives.”

He further explained that they tied the knot in Australia, Malaysia and New York and joked that the closing ceremony was only for green card purposes.

Chieng added: “I speak from personal experience here. There are fewer joys in life than organizing three weddings at the same time. Oh my god, it’s so fun and so easy!”

Pham has an Instagram account dedicated to fashion

Pham is a fan of fashion and especially loves styling jumpsuits. She created an Instagram account to exclusively showcase her jumpsuit collection and called it “JumpsuitPham.”

The account shows all the times she’s worn jumpsuits on the red carpet with Chieng, including a gold look for the 2019 International Emmy Awards and a custom purple and red jumpsuit for the Shang Chi Premiere.

She shared her cooking talents on YouTube

In 2018, Pham started a YouTube channel to share her family’s recipes. Titled Pham Bam Kitchenthe lawyer used the channel to teach her viewers how to prepare regional Asian dishes.

In the channel’s trailer, Pham shared, “When I moved to New York, I really missed home cooking, so I watched a lot of YouTube videos, FaceTimed with my mom, and learned how to make my favorite Asian dishes.” Videos on the channel focused on teaching Vietnamese and Chinese cuisine.

Pham last posted a video on the channel in 2020 of her mother and Chieng making and tasting a chicken curry.
