Who is hosting “Saturday Night Live” tonight? About the “Christmas Show”

“Saturday Night Live” celebrates its 50th season this year.

As the year comes to a close, you may be wondering: Will there be a show tonight, December 21st, or has the cast’s Christmas break begun?

Read on to find out all the details about this week’s show, including the hosts, appearances and what could impending.

Will there be a new episode of Saturday Night Live tonight?

Yes! A new episode of “SNL” airs Saturday, December 21st. As usual, the episode begins at 11:30 p.m. ET / 8:30 p.m. PT and airs on NBC.

It will also be available to stream on Peacock the next day. Peacock is owned by TODAY’s parent company, NBCUniversal.

The December 21 episode will be the last broadcast of 2024 and will be the show’s Christmas episode.

Who is the host?

Martin Short will be hosting this week.

The veteran actor and comedian is known for countless television and film appearances, including “Innerspace,” “Father of the Bride,” “Only Murders in the Building” and “Three Amigos!” He also starred in Broadway musicals such as “The Goodbye Girl” and “Little Me” and won a Tony for the latter.

He has hosted “SNL” four times, first in 1986, once in 1996, again in 2012 and finally in 2022 together with Steve Martin.

With Short hosting for the fifth time, his future could include a plush Five Timers jacket. Celebrities who have hosted the show five or more times introduce the new host to their “Five-Timers Club” with a stylish jacket and cigar. For example, Emma Stone joined the club in 2023.

Short was also a cast member of “SNL” during the show’s 10th season in 1984-1985.

Ahead of his hosting gig, “SNL” released a tribute to some of his best moments on the show over the years. They also posted a behind-the-scenes photo of Short at the table read this week.

Who is performing?

The musical guest will be Hozier, whose real name is Andrew Hozier-Byrne.

The Irish singer first appeared on “SNL” in 2014, following the success of his hit “Take Me to Church.” Ten years and one viral hit later, he’s back and will likely be playing songs from his Unreal Unearth album like “Too Sweet.”

Hozier tweeted his excitement about being the musical guest, writing on X: “A wild way to end the year. I can barely wait for it.”

Fans expressed their enthusiasm for the Instagram post announcing the pairing of Short and Hozier for the final episode of 2024.

“Martin Short and Hozier are such a wild couple and I’m all for it,” one wrote, while another called the duo “an early Christmas present.”

“SNL” also released a video in which Short and Hozier announced that they would host and appear on the show on December 21st. In the clip, longtime cast member Kenan Thompson calls the episode this season’s “Christmas show.”

Fans speculated in the comments that Short’s friend and Only Murders co-star Steve Martin might make a cameo to deliver one of his famous Christmas monologues.
