Who will play on New Year's Day? Check out the NCAAF, NBA and NHL schedules

As the calendar turns from 2024 to 2025, sports fans have plenty of options to watch in the new year.

While the NFL dominated Christmas Day, now it’s college football’s turn as the College Football Playoff takes center stage on New Year’s Day, with three of the four CFP quarterfinals taking place on January 1st.

Texas vs. Arizona State will face off in the Chick-Fil-A Peach Bowl, followed by Oregon vs. Ohio State in the Rose Bowl and the evening ends with Notre Dame vs. Georgia in the Allstate Sugar Bowl.

The only CFP game missing is Penn State vs. Boise State, which will face off in the Vrbo Fiesta Bowl on New Year’s Eve at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona.

Outside of the highly anticipated College Football Playoff, there’s plenty of NBA action with eight games on the schedule, including the Knicks, Nets and Sixers, all taking place on Wednesday night.

The only NHL game on New Year’s Day will be on the West Coast when the Devils travel to LA to take on the Kings.

Typically, the NHL’s annual outdoor event – the Winter Classic – takes place at the start of each new year.

However, this year’s edition between the Blues and Blackhawks will be played a day earlier on New Year’s Eve at 5:00 p.m. at Wrigley Field in Chicago, Illinois.
