The Commander-in-Chief’s Trophy goes back to the Navy Midshipmen.

Thanks to an efficient running game and dominance on both sides, Navy (9-3 overall) pulled off a 31-13 victory over No. 1 on Saturday afternoon at Northwest Stadium in Landover, Maryland. 18 Army (11-2).

With the win, Brian Newberry’s team swept Jeff Monken and Army in two games to win the 17th Commander-in-Chief’s Trophy in program history. Both teams entered Saturday’s rivalry game in contention for the Cup after both military academies defeated Air Force earlier this season.

Navy sealed the victory over Army in the fourth quarter with a QB sneak for a touchdown by Black Horvath, who saluted the crowd after the score. In his first Army-Navy game, he put on a show as the 6-foot-2 dual-threat quarterback finished the game with 311 total yards and four combined touchdowns (two rushing and two passing).

The season isn’t over for Army and Navy as both teams have been selected to play in a bowl game. Army now plays Louisiana Tech in the Independence Bowl on Dec. 28 after Marshall withdrew from the bowl game on Saturday because it lost 29 scholarship players to the transfer portal.

As for Navy, the Midshipmen will travel to Fort Worth, Texas, on Dec. 27 to face the SEC’s Oklahoma in the Armed Forces Bowl.

Who won the Army-Navy game today?

Navy emerged victorious in the 125th meeting of the Army-Navy Game on Saturday at Northwest Stadium in Landover, Maryland.

With the victory, the Midshipmen reclaimed the coveted Commander-in-Chief’s Trophy for the 17th time. In addition to returning the trophy to the United States Naval Academy in nearby Annapolis, Maryland, the Navy will also visit the White House in the spring to celebrate its victory.
