Whoopi Goldberg appeared visibly hurt after a misunderstanding with Charlamagne Tha God on The View

Charlamagne Tha God called out Whoopi Goldberg on Wednesday for refusing to acknowledge the contradiction of President Joe Biden pardoning his son after previously claiming that no one is “above the law.”

Hunter Biden was charged with tax offenses and weapons possession, which carried sentences of up to 17 and 25 years in prison, respectively, but was pardoned by his father on Sunday for all crimes he committed between December 1, 2014 and December 1, 2024.

Charlamagne, the open one The Breakfast Club Radio show co-host argued on Wednesday The view that bipartisan condemnation of the pardon is “valid” because “Democrats have taken this moral stand all along” — and “behaved so self-righteously” when it comes to justice.

Joe Biden previously said he would not interfere in his son’s upcoming prosecution. After President-elect Donald Trump’s guilty verdict in his New York criminal trial in May, he also stated on social media: “No one is above the law.”

“He could have said, ‘Hey man, that’s not what I’m focused on right now,’ but since they called Trump a threat to democracy and said no one is above the law… (they disagreed with that), they voted.” continues,” Charlamagne said Wednesday.

He continued: “So when he kept saying things like, ‘Oh, you know, no one is above the law, I respect the jury’s decision regarding my son,’ he didn’t believe it! But he didn’t have to voluntarily lie about this lie in the first place.”

That last line temporarily earned Charlamagne some ire from Goldberg.

“I’m going to stop you for a second,” she said, arguing to the radio host, native Lenard McKelvey, that he actually didn’t know whether “it was a lie” or why the president changed course on the pardon.

“Do you really think he suddenly changed his mind over Thanksgiving weekend?” Charlamagne asked.

“I think he changed his mind because he was tired of watching everyone else get over it,” Goldberg said. “At some point you get to the point where you just say, ‘So I’m always going to follow the straight and narrow because that’s what the Democrats are expected to do?'”

Charlamagne said the expectations in this case, however, came from the president himself, criticizing the team-based mentality of party loyalists who “refuse to be objective about their own party.”

Goldberg, a Democrat, responded: “Democrats are not a monolith.”

“Why can’t you tell when the Democrats are wrong?” Charlamagne responded. “And why can’t Republicans say when Republicans are wrong?”

Goldberg claimed on the show that she was holding the party accountable and reiterated that she did not believe the pardon was a political mistake.

Charlamagne called her response “ridiculous,” which Goldberg misinterpreted as an insult, prompting him to repeat his claim and make amends on television.

“I didn’t say you were being ridiculous, Ms. Goldberg,” Charlamagne said before they hugged. “I would never do that.”
