‘Wicked’ digital streaming release date set

The hit musical film “Wicked” hits theaters on New Year’s Eve – with lots of deleted scenes, commentaries and other extras.

Following its theatrical release, the Universal Pictures film starring Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande will be available for purchase or rental exclusively on major digital platforms on December 31, 2024. The digital release’s bonus content includes a singalong version, as well as a 40-minute journey through Oz that “celebrates the film’s transformative screen magic” and other material.

In the US, “Wicked” will be available nationwide at digital retailers including Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV, Fandango at Home (formerly Vudu), Comcast Xfinity, Cox and Microsoft Movies & TV. “Wicked” will also be released on 4K UHD, Blu-ray and DVD on February 4, 2025.

“Wicked” set the record for the largest opening of a film based on a Broadway show ever and has grossed $392 million domestically to date. The film was nominated for four Golden Globes, including Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy, and Actor for Erivo and Grande. “Wicked” is based on the stage play with music and lyrics by composer and lyricist Stephen Schwartz and is directed by Jon M. Chu. The film also stars Michelle Yeoh, Jonathan Bailey, Ethan Slater, Marissa Bode, Peter Dinklage and Jeff Goldblum.

Earlier this month, Universal Pictures announced that the sequel had been renamed Wicked: For Good. The film, which chronicles the second act of the Broadway show, is scheduled to hit theaters on November 21, 2025.

Exclusive bonus features included in the digital release of “Wicked: Part One” include:
