Will Austin Ekeler play against the Buccaneers tonight? Explore Commanders RB status for NFL Playoffs Wild Card Weekend

The Washington Commanders and Tampa Bay Buccaneers will wrap up play on Sunday during Wild Card Weekend as the NFL playoffs are officially in full swing. The No. 3 seed Bucs secured their spot in the playoffs with time remaining, while the Commanders started to sweat a bit toward the end.

In any case, Washington appears to have finally put the stink of the Dan Snyder era behind it, making the playoffs with rookie Jayden Daniels under center in Dan Quinn’s first season as the team’s head coach.

The Commanders have also done a great job of concentrating talent around Daniels, allowing the rookie to thrive and have a sensational season that will likely culminate in him being named Offensive Rookie of the Year. That talent includes former Los Angeles Chargers running back Austin Ekeler, who signed with the Commanders in the offseason.

Ekeler hasn’t gotten much work in recent weeks but will be ready to play later tonight when they take on the Bucs.

Will Austin Ekeler play against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers tonight?

Both the Commanders and Bucs enter this game fairly healthy, and no names have been ruled out yet.

However, the Commanders released a fairly lengthy list of names in their injury report for Wild Card Weekend, but Ekeler was not listed on it. The Commanders RB is not on injured status, meaning he is eligible to play against the Bucs later tonight.

Ekeler finished his regular season with 367 rushing yards on 77 attempts, serving primarily as a backup to Brian Robinson Jr. The Commanders used Ekeler as a kick returner this year. He finished third in the NFL with 594 kickoff return yards and 19 total returns in 12 games, earning him a second-team All-Pro selection.

Considering that the Bucs have managed to shut down the running backs on most occasions, expect Ekeler to be significantly more involved in the passing game than the running game tonight. Ekeler caught 35 balls on 41 targets for 366 yards in the regular season.
