ATLANTA – With a winter storm warning issued for much of North Georgia and a weather advisory in effect, 11Alive is actively monitoring school closures and delays. Arctic cold air and a Gulf depression could lead to snow, sleet and freezing rain by the end of the week.

The 11Alive Weather Impact Team forecasts a mix of snow, sleet, freezing rain and cold rain starting Friday morning and continuing into early Saturday morning. The schedule and type of precipitation vary by location:

• Mountains in Far North Georgia: Mostly snow, with 2 to 4 inches expected and locally higher totals possible.
• Metro Atlanta (north of I-20): A mix of snow and sleet early Friday, changing to freezing rain or rain later in the day. Accumulations of 1 to 3 inches of snow and sleet with up to a tenth of an inch of ice.
• South of I-20: A wintry mix will prevail early Friday, transitioning to rain by the afternoon.

Dangerous driving conditions are expected during this event, particularly on unpaved roads.

• Gordon County School District – Schools closed
• Bremen city schools – schools closed
• Calhoun City Schools – Schools closed
• Northwest Classical Academy – Schools closed, no extracurricular activities
