Will Levis injury update: Tennessee Titans QB explains what happened to his shoulder against the Jaguars

Tennessee Titans quarterback Will Levis doesn’t have a new injury, but that doesn’t mean he isn’t in pain.

The Titans’ second-year quarterback walked to the locker room with his throwing shoulder at halftime of the team’s 10-6 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday. He played the remainder of the game, finishing with 19-32 for 166 yards and leading the team into scoring position twice after the painful hit.

Levis explained after the game that the pain he showed after being knocked to the ground on the final play of the first half represented a re-aggravation.

“I have a sprained AC joint. I’ve struggled with this all year,” Levis said. “I made it worse after that goal, shot it up, played through it. I can still play, but it’s not fun.”

Levis originally sprained his throwing shoulder in Week 4 against Miami. He missed the Titans’ games against Buffalo, Detroit and New England as he recovered from the injury. He’s played his best football since returning in Week 10, but when he was knocked down in the second quarter, some of the pain he’d been dealing with bubbled back to the surface.

Towards the end of the half, Levis and the Titans athletic training staff informed coach Brian Callahan that he was structurally sound and fit to play. When he got back into the game, Levis was more concerned with the physical aspects of his game than the game-playing aspects.

“I just wanted to be more careful about throwing the ball away and not trying to extend plays and not putting myself in danger trying to take hits,” Levis said. “I knew I could still make the throws. I’m just trying to be a little more careful.”

The experienced Mason Rudolph remains on the roster as the Titans’ backup quarterback. The Titans (3-10) host the Cincinnati Bengals next week.
